Clinton softball moves to Saturday winner-take-all sectional contest
TOWANDA, PA – Softball followers can safely say the Clinton 12 softball team has its offense back. Held to just a few runs in its first two sectional contests (one win, one loss), the bats are back. Keystone put 10 runs on Danville Thursday in a 10-0 win to stay alive, then scorched Tunkhannock on Friday, 12-2 the final in a 5-inning contest.
With the Friday win, Manager Shawn Weaver’s team has earned a winner-take-all game Saturday with Tunkhannock, that winner advancing to the state tournament later this month.
The hits were flying, the runs scoring for Clinton Friday…four runs in the first inning, two more in the second and wrapping things up with four in the fourth and two in the fifth. Maesyn Franquet continued her torrid streak at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, four runs scored and one walk. Winning pitcher Camdyn Weaver went 2-for-4 at the plate with two triples and four runs batted in. Sister Reagan Weaver chipped in with a homerun and two hits and two RBIs.
Audrey Miller was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Mallory Wunder had two singles. Payton Williams added a single.
Camdyn Weaver went the distance for the win in the circle: five innings, five hits, two runs, four walks and six strikeouts.
