Clinton County’s May unemployment saw slight improvement

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The state Department of Labor & Industry released figures Tuesday and Clinton County had a 5.2% unemployment rate for May.

According to Clinton County Economic Partnership President/CEO Mike Flanagan, Clinton County’s jobless picture improved slightly during the month of May, according to information released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor& Industry.

The Department reported the county’s May unemployment rate was 5.2%, down from the 5.4% registered in April. There were an estimated 200 more county residents working in May, as compared to April. One year ago, the unemployment rate was 7.0%.

Flanagan said Chester County had the lowest month of May unemployment rate in the state at 2.8%, while Clinton was ranked 50th out of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties. Fayette and Forest counties were last, coming in with a 6.1% rate.

For the week period ending June 4, Clinton County had 30 residents file for initial unemployment claims. For the same time period, the continued claims were listed at 230. One year ago, the continued claim number in the county was 691.
