County unemployment rate ticks up

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County’s unemployment rate for April increased slightly from March, according to information recently released by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

The April rate was 5.4%, up from the 5.0% reading from a month earlier. The state attributed the increase to the fact that there were an estimated 900 county residents who were not employed in April, as opposed to 800 in March. One year ago, Clinton’s unemployment rate was 7.1%.

Clinton County’s 5.4% mark in April is 46th out of the state’s 67 counties. Adams County was no. 1 at 3.2% and Centre was no. 6 at 3.4%.

During the seven-day period ending May 28, 20 county residents filed for jobless benefits for the time period.

There were 212 continued unemployment claims for the same time frame, with 63% of them male. One year ago, the continued claim count in Clinton was 526 people.
