Central Mountain baseball, softball set with PIAA home games Monday, June 6
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Both the Central Mountain baseball and softball teams, newly crowned District 6 champions, will have home games in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A state playoffs on Monday, June 6.
Coach Fred Caldwell’s team (20-2) will be first up next Monday, a 3 p.m. start time at the Lady Wildcat field at the CM high school complex. The opponent will be the North Hills Indians (16-4), third-place finisher in the District 7 (WPIAL) tournament.
For Coach Mike Kramer’s baseball team (17-5), it will be a 4 p.m. rematch from last season’s PIAA semifinals: the Bethel Park Black Hawks (17-4), this season a third-place finisher in District 7 (WPIAL). Bethel Park, after edging Central Mountain a year ago, went on and won the PIAA championship.
The baseball game site will be the Lock Haven University baseball field in Woodward Township as the Wildcats’ home field in Mill Hall does not meet PIAA specifications to host a playoff game.
The first-round home games is a new policy from the PIAA, instituted in the wake of COVID-related issues in recent years.
Next Monday’s winners will move in to the PIAA round of eight on Thursday, June 9.
