Montgomery’s Persing shuts down Lady Bucks, 1-0
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Bucktail and Montgomery softball teams staged a great one at Williamsport’s Elm Park on Thursday afternoon. But the Lady Raiders’ Faith Persing was the difference in a 1-0 Montgomery win. The senior right-hander held the potent Bucktail offense (.410 season batting average) to just two singles (from Mac Wagner in the first and Emma Poorman in the fourth), striking out 15.
The game’s only run came in the top of the second inning, Montgomery using a triple and a single to produce what turned out to be the game-winner. It was a heartbreaking loss for Bucktail hurler Poorman who was strong throughout against a talented Montgomery team.
Bucktail finished the season with an outstanding 18-3 mark, all three losses from Persing and Montgomery. The Lady Raiders, now 17-4, move into the District 4 Class 1A championship game; the top two finishers out of the district advance to the PIAA playoffs.
