BEA downs CM baseball, 5-2

WINGATE, PA – The Central Mountain baseball team has gone through the Heartland Conference Division I undefeated to this point with an 11-0 record. But all their losses have come against non-Heartland D-I foes, three in all. The most recent loss came Tuesday against rival BEA, the Eagles downing Central Mountain by a 5-2 score. The only other Wildcat losses in a 12-3 season came earlier, defeats from Heartland Division II foe Midd-West and Mifflin County.

BEA’s Tyler Serb let his defense do the work against CM. He went 6.2 innings and while he struck out only three Wildcats, he did not issue a walk and his defense played perfect ball behind him as he held Central Mountain to seven hits. Eagle freshman Carson Nagle came in to get the final out.

Meanwhile the Wildcats committed four errors, ending a recent run of several games without a miscue. Gabe Johnson took the loss for CM, pitching into the sixth inning, giving up five hits, walking four and striking out three. All five Eagle runs came off Johnson, but only two were earned. Ashton Probst finished up in relief after Johnson hit the pitch limit in the sixth.

Central Mountain scored two runs in the top of the first, driven in by Cayde McCloskey and Cru Stover, but would not score again. The Eagles put up two in the second, one in the fourth and two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Levi Schlesinger went 2-for-2 for the Wildcats, both singles. Kevin Grenninger had a double and singles came from Connor Foltz, Johnson, McCloskey and Chase Brush. Kahele Burns and Ethan Koleno each had two singles for the Eagles.

Central Mountain is to continue their regular season-ending road trip at Shikellamy (5-8;5-10) Wednesday, followed by a Friday make-up date at Danville (6-6; 7-6). Both are crucial in Heartland play as they joust with Selinsgrove for first place.
