Big first inning lifts Millville past Bucktail baseball 20-3
By Bees O’Brien
FARWELL, PA- Bucktail entered their cross divisional Mid Penn Conference contest with Millville with five straight defeats. The Bucks’ baseball team has taken some rough losses already in 2022. Four of those five losses have been by ten runs or more and Monday afternoon’s contest wouldn’t be any different.
Bucktail gave up a big 16-run top of the first inning and found themselves in a deficit that would be hard to come back from without even taking their turn to bat.
The visiting Quakers would add another run in the second and three more in the top of the third inning off relief pitcher Tristan Probst, who came on in the second inning to stop the Millville offensive onslaught. Probst would give up just four runs in two innings of work, compared to the 16 runs Millville scored in the first inning.
Bucktail (1-6) would mount some offensive life in the bottom of the third by scoring three runs. Gary Whipp, Kyler Friese and Probst would all score, but it wouldn’t be enough to keep the Bucks out of the 15-run rule.
Friese would go 1 for 2 on the day with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Brett Mason would add a single and Ethan Kalafut would have the hot bat, as he went 2 for 2 with an RBI.
Bucktail will now host Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to be livestreamed on The Record Online.
