Central Mountain takes out Shamokin in three, 15-0
MILL HALL, PA – Central Mountain has been able to win the close ones in a solid start to the 2022 season. On Monday the task proved easier against a rebuilding Shamokin team, the Wildcats sending the Indians home after piling up a 15-0 win, the game ended after three due to the mercy rule.
The outcome was never in doubt, CM scoring seven in the bottom of the first and seven more in the second. The game ended with one out in the bottom of the third when Kelvin Probst drove in run number 15 with a ringing double.
Innings’ one and two were highlighted by Wildcat smashes all over the Mill Hall Community Park outfield. The most massive was a Cru Stover shot over the head of the Shamokin right-fielder for a rare inside-the-park homerun; that second inning shot followed a 2-RBI single from Stover in the first. Stover was pulled after two innings as Coach Mike Kramer was able to empty his bench. Stover’s replacement, sophomore Elek Fravel drilled a triple to centerfield; it was that kind of a day for the Wildcat hitters as the wind was blowing out.
Other extra base hits, all doubles, came from Cayde McCloskey, Braylen Corter and Connor Foltz; Foltz finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Singles came from Gabe Johnson and Cayden Culvey.
Johnson got the start on the mound and pitched two innings of one-hit shutout ball, striking out four and walking one. Dallas Alexander pitched a perfect third inning, recording two strikeouts. Afterwards Coach Mike Kramer saluted his two pitchers for their effort.
The coach lauded his team for their clutch hits and called the victory a “team win.”
Central Mountain is 7-1 with the win, Shamokin falls to 1-10. The Wildcats are to host Mifflinburg (2-4) on Wednesday, travel to Jersey Shore (1-5) on Thursday, then a non-league contest at Mifflin County (1-6) on Friday.
