Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

“Keep looking up.” What does it mean to look up? Consider the example of the Lord Jesus.

In John 11:41, we read that Jesus lifted up his eyes, and then he began to pray. Again, In John 17:1, he lifted up his eyes toward heaven, and said “Father.”

Jesus described the last days of earth as being times of great distress with perplexity. People will be full of fear because of the things that are happening all around the world. (Luke 21:25, 26)

“And when these things begin to come to pass,” Jesus said,” then look up and lift up your heads, for your Redemption draweth nigh” (v. 28).

Jesus said to look up. What does it mean to look up? It means to pray.

David was a man of prayer. He started in the morning. “Oh Lord,” he said, “in the morning I will direct my prayer unto thee, and I will look up” (Psalm 5:3).

We look up because our redemption draws near. Our redemption comes from our Redeemer, who redeemed us with his blood.

“My faith looks up to thee, thou lamb of Calvary, Savior Divine! Now hear me while I pray, Take all my guilt away, O let me from this day be wholly thine! -Ray Palmer
