Words of Grace

By Rev. Mahlon Nevel

God’s chosen people were a special people unto him. They were more special to him than all the people who were “upon the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 7:6).

Why did he love them so much? It was not because they were more in number. In fact, they were the fewest in number. (v.7 )

He just loved them because he loved them. (v.8)

A man was visiting a family in their home. As they were sitting together in the living room, the little daughter asked the man if he liked dolls. When he said that he did, she went to her bedroom to get her collection of dolls.

After she had presented one by one the whole family of dolls, the man asked her which one was her favorite. The child left the room. When she returned moments later, she was carrying a tattered old doll. Some of its hair had come off and an arm and a leg were missing. Its nose was broken and its cheeks were scratched.

“Well, well,“ the visitor responded, “Why do you like this one the best of all?”

“I loved her most“ the little girl answered, “because if I didn’t love her, no one else would.”
