BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain High School Wrestling Booster Club on Sunday hosted its first-ever Queen of the Mountain wrestling tournament and Wildcat head coach Biff Walizer said afterwards that the turnout of 120 participants is believed to be the biggest such girls scholastic event in state history.

Central Mountain a year ago became the fifth high school in Pennsylvania to formally sanction a girls’ wrestling program. The total number of such programs statewide was approaching 30 this month.

And the host Lady Wildcats held their own, crowning two champions in Emily Chapman at 108-116 and Makenna Stratts in the 135-140 pound division (see all tourney place-winners below).

The one-day event was held in conjunction with a companion booster club jayvee and junior high tourney. Central Mountain had seven titlists in the jayvee competition: Braylen Corter at 132-136, Zane Cooper at 138-142, Jacob Weaver at 158-60, Brody Long at 161-170, Giovanni Tarantella at 188-205, Ashton Intallura at 205-215 and Dakota McDermitt at 210-230.

Junior high first place finishers from Central Mountain were Alton Counsil at 87-107 and Collin Bauman at 101-110 and from Sugar Valley Rural Charter School, Gunner Ohl at 155-168.
