County Historical Society recognized by county commissioners on 100th birthday

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Clinton County Historical Society is commemorating its 100 years of charter, continuing the original mission of collecting and preserving the history of Clinton County. The Clinton County Commissioners recognized the anniversary by proclamation at their meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23.

A celebratory banquet will be held on Oct. 17 at the Lock Haven Elks, 109 E. Main Street. All are invited. The social hour with cash bar is at 5 p. m., buffet dinner at 6 p. m. and a special presentation, Thomas “Tank” Baird is at 7 p. m. The cost is $30 or $33 if paying via credit card..

Mr. Baird is the past president/current vice president of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and has eleven seasons of historic and pre-historic archaeological excavation experience. He published “Mysterious Mound Builder Artifacts Found in Rural Clinton County” in the Journal of the Lycoming County Historical Society 2020, his topic at the banquet.

Artifacts from the Adena Culture, 800 BC to 200 AD were recently found near Loganton and represented materials from Texas, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Could this be a grave site or simply items lost on a previously unknown trade route? These questions, and more, will be explored in Mr. Baird’s presentation. Adena artifacts and more local finds will be on display.

To attend the dinner and presentation, please send a check for $30 per person ($33 if paying with a credit card) to CCHS 362 E. Water Street, Lock Haven, 17745 by October 8. See “Events” on the Society’s website www.clintonpahistory.org. Reservation forms are also available at the Heisey House, 362 E. Water Street. 570-748-7254.
