CM girls’ soccer wins Senior Night over BEA, 1-0

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Lady Wildcat soccer team celebrated senior night on Saturday with its first victory of the 2021 campaign. The Lady Wildcats welcomed a strong Bald Eagle Area side in celebration of the seniors and their commitment to the program. A CM first half goal proved to be enough in the 1-0 win. The Lady ‘Cats are now 1-4 on the season, BEA 3-4.

Ava Bair, Roxanne Condo, Madison Briggs, Sydney Cooper, Maren Grubb Riley Kaluzny, Mia Kopysciansky, Aubriell Pinero, Kylie Quiggle, Emily Short and Alyssa VanGorder celebrated their four years of hard work and dedication to the program. According to head coach Ryan Veltri, “They represent the core values and the traditions of the past. They have embraced the family atmosphere and have made an impact towards changing of the soccer culture at Central Mountain. They will soon become part of an elite group, the Lady Wildcat Soccer alumni and have the common identity of what is known as being dynamic!”

The coach said, “Tonight the Lady Wildcat soccer team played for each other. With 18 minutes left in the first half, Taylor Campbell composed herself as she set up the direct kick. She blasted the ball with precision and what would be the only shot to hit the net of the evening. From there on the Lady Wildcats held on and weathered the attack from Bald Eagle Area. As the game was played in the middle thirds, it became more contested and fifty-fifty balls created crunching tackles. The Lady Wildcat soccer team had a few chances but we’re challenged defensively to see the game out. Madison Briggs collected her first shutout of the season. Strong defensive play by the back line and midfield, the first win of the season came from hard work and organization as well as a bit of game management. It was certainly a whole team effort.”

Next up for the Lady Wildcat soccer team is a short trip down Route 220 on Monday  to meet with Jersey Shore. Varsity starts at 4:30.
