Keystone/Clinton Little League ball set for return

BEECH CREEK, PA – After a year’s absence due to COVID-19, all-star baseball and softball return to the fields of Little League play in Clinton County.

The entire 2020 season for Keystone Little League baseball and Clinton Little League softball fell victim to last year’s pandemic and there were lingering doubts over the past winter if Little League ball could resume in 2021. But as COVID cases dropped and vaccinations went up, Little League officials in Williamsport made the decision that playoff ball can take place this summer, although the Little League World Series in August will be for American teams only.\

On the local level, District 12 specifically, 2021 is to unfold as it has in recent years, prior to 2020, with all-star games at a variety of venues, culminating in a series of district championship games at Little League’s Volunteer Stadium in South Williamsport on a variety of dates in early July.

Two local teams, due to an absence of competition, will move on out of districts without playing a game. These include Keystone’s intermediate team (age 13), made up of many of the same players who won state titles in their age groups in 2018 and 2019 but could not compete a year ago; the same is true for the Clinton Junior softball team, moving on from districts without competition.

Among first-round games is the opener for the Keystone Little League Major (10-12) team. Their first contest is Saturday, June 26, versus Loyalsock, the game to be played at the Old Lycoming Little League field at 11 a.m. The major’s championship game is set for Friday, July 9 at Volunteer Stadium at 8 p.m.
