Optimist Roundtable 5/27
By Martha Sykes
“Let go and let God” is a phrase that popped up a few years ago when I was doing some research for a sermon and it is something that stuck with me. If you search the scriptures, you will not see those words let go and let God, but there are verses that remind us that we can turn all of our worries and troubles to God because He cares so much about us.
It isn’t easy to quit worrying at times, especially when we have people that we love going through troubled times, or when we get upset or hurt about something that happens that is out of our hands, or when we see our world in turmoil around us. The idea of letting go is to let God be in control of troubles in our lives when we feel like we are helpless. To just sit back and “go with the flow” as my husband used to say.
In our Christian lives, there is that spiritual battle which we are told how to prepare for in many verses throughout the Bible. “Fight the good fight of faith” in I Timothy 6:12 from the writings of the apostle Paul. In the book of Hebrews 12:1,Paul also tells us to “throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us”.
Every day we have the opportunity to renew our mind in Christ. This allows God to take all that hinders us so that we are equipped for what lies ahead of us during the day. You see, these matters that hinder us become obstacles in our way and they slow us down or they discourage us in our journey of faith. Giving up to God can be difficult, but it is His help that will bring us freedom and peace in our hearts. When we pray and give our troubles, our fears, our doubts to God, we give Him the opportunity to do His work in our lives. We know that God is so much more stronger than us, and we realize that He holds us all in His hands, so when we give our worries to Him, we are telling Him that we need Him. When our hands are weak and tired, God’s hands are strong and powerful.
The enemy seeks any way, every day to cloud our mind with worries, frustrations, doubts , and fears. The devil wants there to be no room left for God left in our lives. Surrendering it all to God becomes a lifestyle of giving it all to Him. Carrying the baggage of something that happened in the past will only take up space that could be used for God’s goodness and grace. We need to give it all to Him; put it in His mighty hands.
To do this, we need to begin each day with a new slate and talk to God and pray for a new start. Talk to Him for He is always listening, so let Him know that you rely on Him to renew your mind and give you strength for a new day. Start every morning being thankful that God has given you a new day full of hope. Let go and let God bless your day!
