Bucktail softball team downs Saint Joseph’s Academy, 25-6
STATE COLLEGE, PA – The Bucktail softball team started a busy week on a high note on Monday, traveling into District 6 territory to down St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy by a 25-6 score in a contest that went five innings. The win put the Lady Bucks at 7-1 on the season as they head home for a Tuesday showdown with rival Mongomery (7-0), a team which has given up only three runs on the year.
The Lady Bucks brought their bats with them on Monday, picking up 19 hits, also taking advantage of nine free passes. Seven different Bucktail players contributed offensively, led by Jordan Burrows with a 4-for-5 day with two doubles, a homerun and six RBIs. Makenzie Wagner was right there with her, going 4-for-5 with a double among her hits, along with three runs batted in. Emma Poorman went 3-for-4, including a triple, driving in four runs. Haley Burrows had two singles, as did Julie Green and Alexis Lowery and Kayla Probert; Green had three RBIs, Lowery and Probert one each. The Lady Bucks also stole 15 bases.
Wagner and Poorman shared the pitching duties, Wagner going the first four, giving up five hits, six runs (four earned), striking out six and walking two. Poorman pitched the fifth and final inning, striking out the side.
After Montgomery on Tuesday, Bucktail is to travel to Millville (5-3) on Wednesday, and to Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech (4-7) on Friday.
