Darla Jean “Dink” Slenker – Obituary
Darla Jean “Dink” Slenker, 70, of Lock Haven passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021 at UPMC Susquehanna, Williamsport.
Born January 2, 1951 in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (Packer) Russell.
Darla was a 1969 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School.
On June 1, 1984, she married Robert L. “Ack” Slenker, with whom she shared 27 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.
While employed at Susque View Home, Darla attended Penn College of Technology, earning her nursing degree in 1993. She continued working at Susque View Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse until becoming ill in 2010.
Darla loved camping and always looked forward to April with anticipation of kicking off camping season.
She also enjoyed playing cards.
Surviving is her son, Daryl (Tonia) Andrus, Jr. of Antes Fort; her daughter, Bobbie Jo Long of Lock Haven; a brother, Harry (Joan) Russell, Jr. of Rote; four sisters: Connie (Love) Reeder of Lock Haven, Barbara Winner of Mill Hall, Joy Ferrara of Dunnstown and Harriet (Larry) Phillips of Howard; five grandchildren: Robert, Samantha, Blaine, Sydney and Daryl, III; and seven great grandchildren: Nastasia, Braylin, Dillan, Aaliyah, Caydin, Maverick and Thea.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Craig Long.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745. Interment will follow at Romola Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 until 8 P.M. and again on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in Darla’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
