FARWELL, PA – The sun was shining in Farwell Tuesday and the Bucktail girls’ softball team enjoyed the day in the sunshine, winning their season-opener by a 17-0 count over Galeton, a contest that ended after two and a half innings because of the mercy rule.

The Bucktail pitchers hurled a perfect a game as can be done: Nine Galeton batters up, nine Galeton batters down, all strike out victims. Veteran Emma Poorman took care of innings one and two and freshman Makenzie Wagner followed with a perfect third inning.
Meanwhile the Bucktail bats were moving, pounding out 10 hits, helped by 10 walks. The Lady Bucks put up 12 runs in the bottom of the first and added 5 more in the second.

Veteran Jordan Burrows paced the Buck attack with a 3-for-3 start out of the leadoff spot. Alexis Lowery was 2-for-2 with a double, homerun and three RBIs. Also joining the hit parade with one apiece were Haley Burrows, Wagner (a triple), Poorman, RaiLeigh Isaacs (with four RBIs also) and Julie Green.

Bucktail will hit the road Thursday, traveling to Benton. The Lady Bucks lost last season to COVID-19. They took the District 4 title in 2019 and got 2021 off to a promising start with the Tuesday win over Galeton.
