Dickey School auction time: from old Bald Eagle-Nittany band hats to a 2003 Ford dump truck

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The now shutdown Dickey Elementary School on S. Fairview Street in Lock Haven was a beehive of activity Friday afternoon as prospective bidders poured through the old school in anticipation of Saturday’s auction.

Auctioneer Harry Schenck was busy on the phone as prospective bidders called in from all over the country. Schenck said he had a call from Mifflintown, a school operator looking for student chairs; one from Buffalo seeking teaching manuals; even calls from as far away as Missouri.

The Keystone Central School District has filled the multi-story building with items for the Saturday auction block, not just from Dickey but elsewhere. They include Demouin and Aussie-style marching band hats and a drum kit from the old Bald Eagle-Nittany marching band to a 2003 Ford dump truck (65,900 miles; no brakes, has rust) to all kinds of shop equipment to cabinets to desks and much more. The building itself will be on the block at the auction conclusion and auctioneer Schenck said several local parties have expressed interest in purchasing the building.

The school board voted last year to close the school and put the building and its contents up for sale. The building dates to 1966 and runs along W. Bald Eagle Street from S. Jones to S. Fairview Streets. The site is zoned R-2. The auction contents will go up for bid at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, real estate at 12 noon.
