LHU athletics set for return to competition; no spectators allowed at home events

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University department of athletics announced Monday that 12 intercollegiate sports will be resuming this spring, first up the school’s Division I wrestling program this weekend. The announcement said that spectators will not be permitted to attend home Bald Eagles’ sporting events this spring.

The decision is in line with campus health and safety guidelines and one made in the best interest of the health and safety of the LHU student-athletes.

The LHU athletic communication & marketing office is planning to provide a live video stream and/or live statistical feed for as many home events as possible. Appropriate coverage links will be available on each team’s schedule page at GoLHU.com, the official website of Lock Haven University athletics.

To date, 12 of 20 LHU athletics teams are planning to compete during the spring 2021 semester including traditional spring sports – baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field.

Lock Haven’s NCAA Division I field hockey team will play a limited spring schedule starting in March. Also competing this spring – in limited fashion – will be swimming, men’s and women’s cross country and the Bald Eagles Division I men’s wrestling program.

The men’s wrestling team will be the first to return to action as the Bald Eagles are set to compete at the 2021 Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27 in Trenton, New Jersey. No spectators will be allowed at the 2021 MAC championships.

The first home event of the 2021 spring semester is set for Saturday, Feb. 27 as the cross country teams will host an invite with several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams competing.

Team-by-team schedules are available and will continue to be updated at GoLHU.com.

The school said to note, because of the ever-changing nature of COVID-19 and safety protocols, game dates, times and opponents are subject to change at any time. Any, and all updates will be announced at GoLHU.com and on the department’s official social media accounts.
