Clinton Softball Gearing Up for a Summer of Ball

Clinton Softball Field, Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN – While the Keystone Little League is a “no-go” this summer, Clinton Softball will soon be up and running in the Lock Haven area.

Clinton President Kevin Tripp said league coaches met on Sunday and voted to set up a regular season. Tripp said some 70 to 90 girls will be involved on three Major League squads, two Minor B teams, one Minor A team and one Junior team.

The international Little League organization had announced earlier this year, in light of the coronavirus pandemic, that there would be limited post-season all-star opportunities. Instead, Little League encouraged local leagues to provide opportunities for kids this summer.

Tripp said the Clinton league will be working with the municipalities where league fields are located, seeking permission to use the facilities, in line with Little League and state Health Department advisories. Fields are located in Lock Haven, Beech Creek and Booneville. Also, Tripp said, the Castanea Township supervisors have given permission for use of the Little League field along Bald Eagle Creek.

Other likely opponents for the Clinton teams could come from Woolrich, Jersey Shore, Salladasburg and Nippenose.

He said players are required to have two weeks of practice, starting June 15. He said it is hoped to have a 10-game schedule to be played through the month of July. There is also discussion of a Major tournament to be hosted locally, which could also involve teams from the Williamsport area and elsewhere.

Tripp said some players who had signed up earlier have chosen not to play this year; he said the league is looking at some level of refund for those players and asked parents to be patient.

For those who may have missed the earlier sign-up and wish to play, the league president said, their parents may go to the Clinton Little League Facebook page for information or call him at 570-295-0038.
