Editor:

An approach to consider for safely and quickly getting our nation back to being together

I ain’t got no cullidge Edyoukashun, but in my 77 years, I did see some things happen that most people cherished!

To repeat, we have established some health and safety guidelines for all Americans to which we should abide.

The more commonly known are:

  1. Stay away from others as much as possible.
  2. Provide a minimal safe social distance of six feet.
  3. Keep as clean as possible as in effectively washing your hands as much as practical.
  4. Keep your clothing clean.
  5. Avoid coughing and sneezing as much as practical.
  6. When coughing or sneezing avoid others.
  7. When coughing or sneezing contain such actions to yourself such as using tissues or hankies to stifle such actions or at least containing them to your person such as your elbow or at least hand-covering.

If there are other protective procedures of which I am not aware, they should be added to this list.

NOW, lets get down to business!  We need to get our kids back in school by first & always abiding by the aforementioned guidelines!

Why not go to school a half day for everyone!  Half the kids go in the morning, the other half go in the afternoon!  That presents the opportunity to establish social distance while practicing the the other six guidelines!

The other things in education we have been successfully doing all our lives.  Why not continue while following the SEVEN guidelines mentioned above.

Who better knows what can or not be done to continue the effective operation of those educational processes than those doing it now, the teachers, staff and administrators?  There may be some things needed modified to improve the overall situation such a custodial practices for more or improved sanitation practices & procedures!  Those procedures need to be adapted to be done in compliance with the health & safety guidelines listed above allowing productivity to resume without spreading the virus in the gathering places!

There are numerous examples of accommodations I could site, but for brevity’s consideration, I will leave them out at this time and address them as they come up.

ThanX!  PEACE & Shalom,

Jan Mills, Sr.
