Williamsport hands Lady Wildcats 50-38 Loss on Senior Night
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain worked hard to keep pace with the visiting Lady Millionaires in their PHAC crossover game Thursday night but Williamsport would prevail, 50-38.
Williamsport held a strong 29-20 lead at the half but the Lady ‘Cats came out of the locker room on a mission and edged Williamsport, 10-9 in the third quarter still trailing their guests 38-30.
In the fourth quarter, Central Mountain kept swinging and came within four points of the Lady Millionaires but Williamsport would rebound to outscore the Lady Wildcats 12-8 in the final eight minutes for the 50-38 win.
Early in the first quarter, I thought we were a little bit timid,” said CM head coach, Scott Baker, “We were trying to figure out how to play against that size and they were pretty quick. I thought we settled in well and I don’t think our effort wasn’t bad.”
“I thought we turned the ball over too much and we went back to shooting too many threes,” Baker explained, “When you combine those two things it gives them too many opportunities.”
Williamsport had good success at times in choking off Central Mountain’s passing lanes creating opportunities.
Offensively, Quinlynn McCann was the leader for the Lady ‘Cats once more dropping in 23 points, including 12 from outside the arc and a 6-7 effort from the penalty stripe. Mia Kopysciansky scored 6 points followed by Avery Baker with 5 and Reese Doyle with 4.
“I think Quinlynn McCann played her best game of the season tonight,” Baker said of his team leader.
Central Mountain honored four seniors: Macenzie Walsh, Lauryn Haines, Faith Carter and Madyson Smith before the game for their contributions to the program.
