Central Mountain Wrestlers Down ‘Shore, 54-15

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – A shorthanded Jersey Shore wrestling team proved no match for Central Mountain in the Wildcats’ season-opening dual Friday night, the result a 54-15 CM win.

Jersey Shore forfeited five weights overall, falling behind 35-0 midway through the dual meet before taking three of the next four to draw within 38-15. But Central Mountain swept the final three to win going away.

Forfeit winners for CM included Gino Serafini at 106 pounds, Derek Keen at 113, Zach Miller at 132, Tristan Probst at 138 and Cyrus McCarl at 285. Nik Miller recorded Central Mountain’s only fall, a first-period deck job at 195 pounds. Gage Sutliff added a 12-0 major at 220 and Tyler Weaver piled up a 17-2 technical fall at 126.

Central Mountain picked up decision wins in the two most competitive bouts of the night: Braylen Corter held off Liam Goodrich, 5-4, at 120 and Damien Galentine went back-and-forth with ‘Shore’s Tyler Bauder before earning an 8-7 win at 160 pounds. Kaden Falls posted a decision win at 145 pounds.

‘Shore winners were Gabe Packer, a decision at 152, and falls from Hayden Packer at 170 and Ryan Kershner at 182 pounds.

Wildcat coach Biff Walizer said he was “pretty pleased” with the effort and said, “Hopefully we’ll take this momentum into tomorrow. It will be tough out of the gate.” Central Mountain will be competing in a quadrangular meet Saturday at Shikellamy High School, starting with Williamsport (2-0) at 10 a.m., the host Braves (0-1) at 11:30 a.m. and finishing with Shamokin (0-1) at 1:30 p.m.

Central Mountain recognized its PIAA championship team from the 2009-10 season prior to Friday’s dual meet. The coaching staff and multiple team members, including Dylan and Andrew Alton and Jordan Rich returned to participate in a pre-meet ceremony. The current Wildcat team lined up behind their bench as the state title team was honored. Coach Walizer said it was good for his current squad to see “the huge accomplishment” of the earlier squad.

Jersey Shore dropped to 4-3 on the dual meet season with the loss. Williamsport hosted Altoona on Friday and downed the Mountain Lions, 39-28.
