Super Load Blockage Over on I-80; Eastbound Lanes Now Open

UPDATE: As of 8:06 p.m.,PennDOT announces the super load “has been moved to the crossover between mile-marker 187 and mile-marker 188 and is parked for the night.”

I-80 eastbound lanes were opened as of that time. PennDOT said the super load is expected to be delivered to First Quality Tissue on Monday.

LAMAR TOWNSHIP – The 10-day effort to transport the super load from Erie to Castanea Township hit a major snag on Interstate 80 late Sunday afternoon.

PennDOT says the load’s lead vehicle overheated and is blocking all I-80 eastbound lanes between Lock Haven mile-marker 178 and mile-marker 182.

Traffic was reported backing up and PennDOT has asked drivers to be patient and follow any detour instructions they are given.

PennDOT said crews are working to pull the super load to the side to clear a lane and allow traffic to move through; no time estimate on the clearing was given.

The last word from PennDOT was that the mammoth Yankee dryer is still to arrive at First Quality Tissue in Castanea Township on Monday.
