Clinton County Host Municipality for LHU East Campus Renovation Project

LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton County Commissioners Thursday agreed to make county government the “host municipality” to further a $2 million renovation project at Lock Haven University’s East Campus.

The funding is from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, as announced by now retired state Rep. Mike Hanna last October.

The project is a joint endeavor among the county, the Lock Haven University Foundation and SEDA-COG. The commissioners also approved a cooperation agreement among the three entities.

As announced last fall, the project involves renovating a section of the East Campus, which is the former Lock Haven High School, creating additional indoor event space for job fairs, art shows, food fairs, other community events and the formation of a LHU multi-sport athletic complex. . The total cost of the renovation project, according to earlier word, is estimated at over $9 million. The expected project competition date will be approximately one year from the date of demolition.

The RACP is administered by the state’s Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. Projects selected for funding have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity.
