LOCK HAVEN — Lock Haven University and UPMC Susquehanna have announced a partnership that will provide important opportunities for health education to LHU students, UPMC employees and the local community. The new partnership will enhance Lock Haven University’s health professions programs through the addition of cutting edge technology — a patient simulation lab — in a clinical setting at UPMC Susquehanna Lock Haven, to help both students and UPMC employees learn, practice and advance their clinical skills.

In addition, LHU is working with UPMC Susquehanna to develop and expand academic programs that will address UPMC’s workforce needs for employee development and advanced training.

Along with clinical training, the partnership will bring new forums for health education to the region. UPMC Susquehanna and LHU plan to collaborate on community health initiatives, including a fall health fair on the campus of Lock Haven University that will offer multiple health education activities and information about LHU’s health programs.

“Lock Haven University is pleased to partner with UPMC Susquehanna to increase access to vital health education and programs for the people in our region. Working together, we can help address the needs of our community through workforce training with state-of-the art technology and health and wellness programs and activities,” said Dr. Robert Pignatello, LHU president.

The partnership builds on the existing partnership between UPMC Susquehanna and LHU Athletics, announced in November 2018, which named UPMC Susquehanna as the official sports medicine and health care provider of LHU athletics. UPMC Susquehanna provided funding for a mobile athletic training facility, which is located at LHU’s Stern Athletic complex and gives care directly to the athletes.

“Lock Haven University and UPMC are two of the largest employers in Lock Haven and Clinton County,” said Ron Reynolds, president, UPMC Susquehanna Lock Haven. “By working together, we aim to improve not only the health and wellbeing of our community, but also the economy through workforce development. We’re proud to be a part of this important initiative and we look forward to future growth and expansion of the partnership.”
