Huntingdon Defense Stifles Lady ‘Cats, 58-29

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP β It was another tough outing for the Lady Wildcat basketball squad as they hosted Huntingdon Monday night, coming up short, 58-29.
The Lady Bearcats cane out with a pressure defense that they ran wore-to-wire against Central Mountain. When Huntingdon wasn’t clogging up the passing lanes, they were trapping along the sideline to stifle any kind of momentum CM could muster. Adding to the frustration, Central Mountain had great difficulty maintaining possession with 35 turnovers to their credit in the game.
“Huntingdon is a nice team and they shot the ball very well tonight,” Baker said of the Lady Bearcats, “I though we handled their press well. Where I though we didn’t do a good job was once we got over half court, we didn’t handle the ball very well.”
Huntingdon built a 35-16 by halftime and maintained that pressure on Central Mountain in the second half extending their lead to 52-22 at the end of the Thord quarter, though the Lady ‘Cats did manage to outscore Huntingdon 7-6 in the final period.
As dire as the scoreboard looked, there was no quit by the Lady Wildcats as they were willing to give it their all throughout the game.
“For the most part, they are giving us a lot of effort,” said CM head coach Scott Baker, “They have bought into the idea it is going to take some time to get where we want to go.”
Quinlynn McCann set the pace for the Lady Wildcats with 10 points while Morgan Wetzel score 9. Mia Kopysciansky had 5 points on the night while Madyson Smith and Olivia Anastos had 2 points each with Summer Flanagan adding a free-throw to the scoring.
The loss takers Central Mountain to 0-15 on the year.
Next up for the Lady Wildcats is a road trip to Shikellamy, tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019.
