A Day Late, CM Winter Sports Practice Begins (Video Report)

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Delayed by one day due to the first winter weather of the season, the Central Mountain varsity winter sports teams finally began preseason workouts Saturday morning.

The Lady Wildcat basketball program opened things up taking the court at 8 a.m. for their first official practice under the guidance of their new head coach, Scott Baker. Baker who has coached boys’ basketball for over 30 years now takes the helm for the Lady ‘Cats who have been struggling of late with only 4 wins in the past 5 seasons. With 17 players on the roster, most underclassmen, the Lady Wildcats are eager and working hard to change their fortunes in the 2018-19 season.

CM wrestling head coach, Biff Walizer gathered his wrestlers in the room at 9:30 this morning for their first session of work. The Wildcat grapplers look to have another solid crew with nearly 30 grapplers participating this winter. There have been several changes in the District 6 alignment with both BEA and Philipsburg-Osceola dropping down to AA that will offer a different look for this season for the Wildcats as they seek to improve upon their 13-2 record from last season and defend their D6 team title. This season there is also a change in the structure for the Heartland Conference with Milton moving into the Div. I schedule and Midd-West dropping down.

The Wildcat boys’ basketball took to the hardwood at 10 a.m. for their first practice intent on their goal is to return to the District 6 title game this season. With 23 returning players from their 12-11 effort last year, and a strong group of underclassmen vying for playing time, the prospects for another successful season under second team head coach, Tyler Bardo.
