Jersey Shore Turns Fortunes with 1-0 OT Win over Wildcats
JERSEY SHORE – It’s always a classic meeting between the boys’ soccer programs from Jersey Shore and Central Mountain. In their second meeting of the 2018 season, today, was no exception.
For 80 minutes both squads played intense, fast-paced soccer, constantly challenging each other. Only problem was, the scoreboard was still locked at 0-0 after regulation play.
In their last meeting at Malinak Stadium on Sept. 18, the Wildcats were the fortunate ones, scoring a buzzer-beating golden goal with 2 seconds remaining in the second period of overtime. Today, it was the Bulldogs turn at good fortune when Hunter Bierly drilled a direct free kick at the CM goal that ricocheted off a Wildcat defender and rolled into the goal to end the game 2:03 into overtime.
The stats for the game show how close the game was played with ‘Shore holding an edge in corner kicks, 6-2 and shots on goal, 7-6.
Brayden Brungard and Jeremiah Thomas each with 2 shots while Dalton Bechdel and Jackson Walker each had one shot on goal for the Wildcats.
Bierly had 3 shots on goal for Jersey Shore while Alex Butzler had 2 shots and Alex Trunzo had Ross Fuller had one shot each for the ‘Dawgs.
Cy Probst had 4 saves at keeper for CM while Jersey Shore keeper, Tim Martin had 3.
Central Mountain will next take the pitch when they host Mifflinburg on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 at Malinak Stadium.
