Wildcats find offensive groove at Neumann in 89-69 win

By Bees O’Brien

WILLIAMSPORT- St. John Neumann has had a tough season thus far in 2024-25. The Golden Knights boys program has been the kings of District IV for nearly two decades, but they are in the midst of a down year and that was just fine for Central Mountain on Thursday evening at the Catholic Community Center in Williamsport.

The Wildcats have been in a bit of slump as of late, too. Their 12 made three-point baskets and an incredible 47 first half points set the stage for a big Central Mountain road win.

Right out of the gates CM built a 11-point lead by smoking 23 points to the host’s 12 points. It was more from the Wildcats in the second quarter.

Central Mountain pumped in 24 points, but St. John Neumann countered with 19 of their own to fight their way back into the contest.

Up 47-31, Central Mountain didn’t miss a beat by connecting on 26 points in the quarter to Neumann’s 14 point effort.

St. John Neumann did rally in the final frame, but their 24-16 fourth quarter wasn’t enough to climb out of the hole, as Central Mountain grabbed the 89-69 road win over the Mid Penn Conference’s Golden Knights.

St. John Neumann (1-7) was led by Daiton Thompson’s 12 points. Legend Dillard added 10 in the loss.

Noah Wells led the Wildcats with 18 points. Darius Shade and Hunter Hoy each dropped in 17 points. Jeremy Reese also hit for double figures by scoring 10 points.

Central Mountain jumps back into Pennsylvania Heartland play on Saturday when they host Shamokin.
