Beaver Stadium Press Box Felling Set for Jan. 4

UNIVERSITY PARK– The iconic Beaver Stadium press box is set to be demolished on Saturday, January 4 at approximately 8 a.m., as part of the Beaver Stadium Revitalization. There will be a public viewing area in the Stadium West parking lot, adjacent to the Bryce Jordan Center marquee.

Parking will be available in the Yellow H Shields lot, near Pegula Ice Arena, the Orange A lot at Katz Building, and the Eisenhower Parking Deck, using ParkMobile or HONK for $1 per hour. Please see lot entrance signage for instructions. The East Parking Deck will also available at $2 for the first hour and $1 per hour for additional time. Please note that no parking will be available in the Commuter Lots – Jordan East, Stadium West and Porter North.

There will be coffee, hot chocolate, breakfast sandwiches and breakfast pastries available for purchase (credit card only). There will also be a number of activities at the event, including a DJ, opportunity to sign a bleacher from the upper West side and drawing to win signed construction hats by the Penn State head coaches. There are no aircraft (drones, helicopters, etc.) permitted in the area.

Due to the demolition, the following road closures will take place:

  • Curtin Road from University Drive to Porter Road from 7 a.m. until the area is cleared by safety crews.
  • University Drive from Park Avenue to Curtin Road – traffic held during detonation at approximately 7:55 a.m.
  • Park Avenue from University Drive to Porter Road – traffic held during detonation at approximately 7:55 a.m.

The Bryce Jordan Center East and Stadium West parking lots will be closed to vehicles from 5 p.m. on Friday, January 3 until the area is cleared by safety crews.

A number of items, including upper West stadium signage and bleachers, have been salvaged during construction preparations. Those items will be available for purchase at a later date.

The demolition of the Beaver Stadium Press Box is the start to a large-scale demolition of the upper West side of Beaver Stadium. There will be workers on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the next six weeks to demo, clear and prep the area for the construction that will take place prior to the 2025 season.

The Beaver Stadium press box, which was original to New Beaver Field, was disassembled and moved from New Beaver Field to Beaver Stadium following the 1959 season, along with the grandstands. The press box was expanded to its current configuration in 1980 with additions on either side of the original press box to nearly double its size.

About Beaver Stadium Revitalization

In May 2024, the Penn State Board of Trustees approved investing in a $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium, which will transform the fan and community experience and support our student-athletes by fueling the future funding for all 31 athletics programs at Penn State. The approved renovations will enable year-round use of Beaver Stadium, further driving economic growth and development in the surrounding region. The revitalization entered its next phase with work having commenced on the West side on December 22, and it will continue in stages until its completion prior to the 2027 season.

Additional updates will be shared with the Penn State community as the renovation progresses at GoPSUsports.com/beaverstadiumrenovation.
