Jaycees Water Street Midway Ready to Regatta

LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven Area Jaycees Labor Day Regatta is celebrating its 48th year this weekend and as of mid-day Friday, the Water Street midway was set to go, tens of thousands of visitors soon to descend Friday evening. The arts and crafts area along Canal Park will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. and Big Daddy Bangers will be playing on the Water St. stage from 7 to 10 p.m. Boat racers were getting in their practice laps on Friday, preparatory to three days of racing starting Saturday at 10 a.m. and continuing through Monday, Labor Day.

All the Jaycees’ favorites are back with one notable exception. For the first time in memory there will be no beer tent on the Lockport side of the Susquehanna River. Dunnstsown Fire Company president/assistant chief Mike Fetzer said the end to the beer tent results from liability concerns and dwindling proceeds.

There will be a tent and there will be music and vendors and a chicken bar-b-q, Fetzer said, but there will not be beer available. He expressed the hope that fire company supporters will turn out as in the past, “We would very much appreciate regatta-goers visit us on the Lockport side, as our effort is a major fundraiser.”

The bar-b-q, including chicken and pork and hot dogs, will be available both Saturday and Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. and into the evening. Both the tent and the adjacent pavilion will be part of the event and additional vendors will be present as in the past. Music will also be provided on both days.

Otherwise, Regatta goers can look for four days of fun and food and arts and crafts Sunday and Monday at 10 a.m. Fireworks this year are scheduled for Sunday at 10:30 p.m.
