Watkins Hurls Perfect Game in Crick Sweep

BELLEFONTE – For Beech Creek American Legion pitcher Ethan Watkins it was 21 up and 21 down as the former Central Mountain High School standout tossed a seven inning perfect game, part of a 5-0 win at Bellefonte Sunday.

The Crickets used a combined 5-hitter from AJ Smith and Brandon Miller in game two, an 11-1, five inning win. The two victories left Beech Creek with a 6-2 mark and a home game Tuesday evening with Huntingdon.

Watkins struck out 12 Bellefonte batters in hurling his first Legion no-no. Beech Creek meanwhile kept pecking away offensively. Trevor Hanna singled in the third. Brandon miller grounded out to first to move Hanna to second. Mahlik Houtz then singled in Hanna for the game’s first run. Hanna walked to start the 5th and Miller tripled to score Hanna.

Chase Payton pinch-hit for Mitch Smith in the 7th and drew a walk. He would later score on an error by the right fielder. Hanna finished with one hit and two runs, Miller had a triple, Houtz put up three hits and Trey Gentzel had two.

Beech Creek pitchers continued the visitor’s domination in game two. AJ Smith tossed four innings, giving up one run on two hits. Miller pitched a scoreless fifth.

Hanna and Miller singled to start the game. Evan Prough had a sac fly to drive in Hanna. Miller scored when Watkins got into a rundown trying to steal second.

Mitch Smith and Tanner Lavelle had back to back singles to start the second. Hanna drove both in on a single.

Houtz drove in Mitch Smith and Hanna in the 4th inning.

Hanna later drove in Mitch Smith and Lavelle on a double. Sacrifice flies from Houtz and Tanner Spangler also brought in runs. .

Hanna finished 4-4 with four RBIs, including a double. Lavelle finished with two hits, Houtz with one and three RBIs, Prough with one and an RBI, AJ Smith one and an RBI and Mitch Smith with a single.
