tRobert D. Lachat, 91, of 106 Linnwood Drive, McElhattan, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Susque View Home.

Born on September 12, 1922 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late John Leonard and Eva M. McCloskey Lachat.

During World War II, Robert served in the United States Navy on the USS Miami as a gunner.

On September 5, 1943 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, he married the former Mary Katherine Krape who survives.

Robert worked for the PA Railroad until retiring in 1966. He then went to work as a machine operator for Woolrich Woolen Mills until retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Robert was a member of the Jersey Shore American Legion, Jersey Shore VFW, Jersey Shore Eagles, and U.S.S. Miami CL-89 Association. He was also a life member of both 40 & 8 and the Jersey Shore Moose.

Robert enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by a son, Robert J. Lachat of Lock Haven; two daughters: Theresa A. Sample and Eileen J. Young, both of McElhattan; four brothers: Roy of Salona, Frank of Flemington, James of Williamsport, and Freddy of McElhattan; one granddaughter; six grandsons; and numerous great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by three brothers: John, George, and Joe; and two sisters: Francis Lachat and Mary Bradley.

Robert’s family would like to send a special thank you to his caregiver and nurse, Debbie Couturiaux.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 East Church Street, Lock Haven, with Deacon Chip Young officiating. Friends and family will be received from 11:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to either St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 East Walnut Street, Lock Haven, or the Veteran’s Association, 801 Vermont Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20420.
