MILL HALL – 700-plus years of service collectively. Those hours represent providing a classroom education, maintaining buildings and grounds, administrating, teaching a trade, and supporting the district in a multitude of ways.

Members of the KCSD school board, administration, and families of retirees gathered at Central Mountain High School Temptations Restaurant to celebrate the careers of 32 recent and upcoming retirees.

The event was organized by Joellen Chappelle, Board Secretary and Assistant to the Superintendent and Tracy Long, Human Resources; the gathering offered light refreshments including a cake.

Dr. Alan Lonoconus, Interim Superintendent presented each retiree with the traditional inscribed brass bell and asked each of them to share what their plans after retirement included. Mill Hall second grade teacher Leslie Powers shared that after her 28 years in the district she will be “helping my sons start a chiropractic business in the area”. High school English teacher Chris Hausammann plans to travel and perform some construction on his home. Hausammann taught in the district for 26 years. Donna Duma, a staple in administration for the last ten years is planning time with her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Some retirees are looking forward to relaxing, reading, and spending time with family; others are planning to continue to substitute teach in the district. Gloria Bowers, CMHS art teacher was unavailable for the ceremony as she was preparing the senior ball. Bowers topped the years served list with 36.

Dr. Lonoconus thanked each of the attendees for their time and commitment to education and wished them all the best as they move on to the next chapter.
