Wildcat Golf Finishes Third at D6
Storeman Advances to PIAA Individual Regional Round
ALTOONA – It was good news and bad news for the Central Mountain golf team today as they completed play in the District 6 round of the PIAA golf tournament. The Bad news is the ‘Cats finished third again, even though they shaved 10 strokes off their previous round from yesterday it wasn’t enough to catch up to the rest of the field.
Central Mountain turned in 354 behind State college at 349 and Altoona took the AAA championship with 326. The two-day totals were Altoona, 659; State College, 702 and Central Mountain, 718. Altoona will move on to represent the district at the District 6, 8, 9,10 Sub-Regional at Treasure Lake Silver Course on Thursday Oct. 12, 2017.
The good news for Central Mountain was that Matt Storeman scored high enough to be one of the top two individual players to advance to regionals. Storeman turned in 86 score today along with his first round tally of 74, giving him a 160 for the two day effort. Altoona’s Derek McAlkich was just ahead with 158 (first round, 80; second round, 78).
Storeman and McAlkich will advance to the next round, the PIAA West Regional At Toms Run on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.
Other individual scored for the Wildcats today were: Tyler Adair, 80; Jason Floruss, 94; Logan Fisher, 94 and Zach Somers, 100.
Central Mountain finished with a regular season record of 30-5 and captured the 2017 Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference Championship in the process.
