Renovo’s Flagpole Part of ATV Cruise

atv-cruiseRENOVO — The Renovo ATV Cruise for a Cure is fast approaching and volunteer trail riders have already begun work to make this year’s event a memorable one.

On March 23, during their pre-ride for the Renovo ATV Cruise for a Cure, Central Mountains ATV Association, Inc., stopped at the Renovo Vista to view the town below. It was decided that this would be a great resting area for the riders participating in the June 7 event.

Seeing that the view from the vista needed to be cleared of an overgrowth of brush and trees, some of the CMATVA members returned on March 30th to reopen the view. Henry Sorgen IV, Carl Johnson, and Mike McCool met at Heritage Park to travel up to the vista together. Carl stayed at the top of the vista and directed Henry and Mike as they progressed down the side of the mountain. It took about three hours to open the view which now provides a panorama from the Carmen Rosamilia Bridge at 11th Street to Shintown including a great view of the shops and the event’s staging area in Heritage Park.

The crew also removed a lot of cans, bottles and even a car door that had been tossed off the vista. While standing at the vista looking at what had done, it was decided that this would be a great spot to video and photograph the first group leaving Heritage Park and going through town on June 7.

The Renovo Vista , or “The Flagpole” as it is more popularly known, will be the final rest stop on the approximately 45 mile ride that backers say promises to be the best, and most scenic ride of all. As Sorgen said after viewing the vista for the first time, “This will be the icing on the cake.”

CMATVA and the event committee said they appreciate the support and cooperation of all who come together each year for this cause. The route is the critical factor in the growing popularity of the Renovo ATV Cruise for a Cure. Tom Charles has opened Boone Road and one of his private trails around to the vista. DCNR has developed a combination of trails and roads in Sproul and Susquehannock State Forests that connect with township roads in Leidy Township. PennDOT and Renovo Borough have permitted the relays to follow a parade route from Heritage Park to Renovo looping through town and back to the trailhead.

Sorgen said the result of this cooperation creates a unique experience that enables the riders to see parts of Pennsylvania not normally seen during an ATV ride. He added that the CMATVA hopes to see everyone come out and support Bucktail Medical Center Relay For Life team in this annual fund raiser to fight cancer.
