Central Mountain Softball 3-0
WILLIAMSPORT — A new look Central Mountain girls’ softball team is off and running in the 2014 season.
The Lady Wildcats are 3-0, the hot start capped off by a 3-2 extra-inning win at nemesis Williamsport on Tuesday.
Central Mountain had romped in its first two games, 12-1 home victories over Hollidaysburg and Clearfield.
But it was a playoff atmosphere at the Lady Millionaire’s home Elm Park Field on Tuesday and Central Mountain was equal to the challenge.
The Lady Wildcats were rolling, leading 2-0 behind a one-hitter from ace Rachael Shady heading into the bottom of the seventh. The home team bunched several hits and a walk to tie the game at 2-2, sending it into extra innings.
Central Mountain wasted no time in regaining the lead and ultimately the victory. Lauren Russell led off the top of the eighth with a single and Jordan Kaler got on base on an error, followed by a Madison Brown single. Bree Hilty got what proved to be the winning run to home plate with a sacrifice fly.
The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the first. Moriah Lindsey singled and Jess Strouse doubled for one run and Russell, on base on a fielder’s choice, scored run number two on a Kaler triple.
Shady was solid again for Central Mountain on the rubber; she is now 3-0 with three complete games and only four runs allowed.
Next up for Central Mountain is a Saturday noon time home contest with DuBois, followed by a home contest with Altoona next Tuesday.
