Bucks Blank Galeton in Season Opener

bucks-baseballFARWELL – With the first three games postponed to a later date for the opening of the 2014 Bucks baseball season, Tuesday’s game with Galeton was scheduled to be played at Galeton. But because of field conditions there, it was switched to Farwell and Bucktail responded with a 7-0 win.

This could happen again; the game this Friday at Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech may also be switched to play at home because their field may not be ready. That will not be determined until Thursday.

Bucktail only practiced on its field once this pre-season and that would have been this past Monday before the Bucks took down Galeton 7-0 Tuesday.

Coach Bill Probst could not be more proud of what he saw on the mound. Senior, Tony Saltsman was handed the ball first for the first two innings as he struck out all six batters he faced on just 28 pitches. Senior Trent Risley pitched the next two innings as he finished with five strikeouts. Junior, Collin Burrows had the next two innings as he had four strikeouts. Then in the seventh inning, it was senior Chuck Probst who struck out three of the four batters he faced in the final inning.

The Bucks came out of the batters’ box strong in the first inning as leadoff hitter Probst had an inside-the-park home run. Senior Chris Spencer had a RBI single and sophomore Derrick Long an RBI single as the Bucks posted 4 runs in the first inning on three hits.

In the third inning Bucktail scored two runs off of three Galeton errors. Bucktail’s final run would come in the fifth as Probst walked with two outs and stole second and third base. Risley then laced a single between short and third for the final RBI of the game.

Spencer was the big hitter of the game as he finished 3 for 4, all singles. Bucktail did leave a lot of runners on base, nine, as Galeton did have seven errors during the game.
