Wildcats Edged in Baseball Opener

cm-baseballHOLLIDAYSBURG — 2013 was a year when Central Mountain baseball lost its share of heart-breakers; the 2014 opener was no exception.

A fielder’s choice RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be enough as the home-standing Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers edged the Wildcats by a 2-1 score on Tuesday.

Central Mountain scored first, Cayden Stover plating Toner Corl with a first inning run for a 1-0 lead.

But Hollidaysburg would battle back, tying the game and then scoring the winning run in the sixth when the Wildcats tried to turn a double-play to end the inning but a safe call at first base allowed the go-ahead run to score.

Stover was the tough-luck loser, going five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on just one hit, striking out six and walking four. Clayton Butler finished out the sixth inning, allowing two hits.

Central Mountain had six hits, including two from Dylan Kerstetter, an RBI single from Stover, Butler 1-for-3, Caleb Seyler 1-for-1 with two walks and Ryan Yost 1-for-3.

The Wildcats were to have their home opener Wednesday against Philipsburg-Osceola and host Punxsutawney on Saturday. Home games are again being played at Mill Hall Community Park.
