NOYES TOWNSHIP – For many years I have enjoyed fishing Drury’s Run.

From the reservoir to the head waters at Tamarack Swamp, I suppose I have fished most all of it at one time or another, from the open water of the reservoir, up through the small boulder lined holes, that are shaded by some pretty thick over-hanging rhododendron and hemlock boughs (which are not so enjoyable to fish under at times), and on up to the open shallow holes of almost coffee colored water just downstream of the Tamarack Swamp. It’s a nice little stream.

What is not so enjoyable about it, over the years of fishing this nice little stream, has been to watch the trash build up along the roadway and even down over to the bank to the stream’s edge.

Cans, bottles, plastic, metal items and in recent months, household garbage has been dumped at a few locations, what a shame!

It’s been really bothering me for awhile, so I decided to try organizing a volunteer roadside litter clean-up and with the help of my wife, Lynn, with her posting on Facebook and advertising in The Record,  we put the word out to see if anyone would be interested in helping clean it up.

We were very happy to see that other people feel the same and signed up to help.

We had a pretty good crew for the cleanup, 18 people in all and we managed to get a lot of trash picked up.

So we would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved, all of the volunteers that cleaned up and help make signs, Dominion who provided cleaning supplies and a delicious tailgate lunch to feed the crew which was catered by the Kettle Creek Inn, Citizens Hose Co. for use of their road sign, and Penn DOT for supplying bags, gloves and safety vests.

All in all, although we still have one stretch left to complete, it was a big success. It’s really nice to see people who are willing to take time out of their day off to help; we really appreciate it, Thanks again.
