CM’s 8th Annual Thunder on the Mountain Softball Tournament
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP — Arguably Pennsylvania’s top midseason softball tournament is ready for a run this weekend at the Central Mountain High School softball complex.
The Central Mountain Softball Boosters will hold the 8th Annual Thunder on the Mountain Tournament Saturday and this year’s field once again features some of the top AAAA teams in Pennsylvania. Here’s a rundown on the field:
The host CM Wildcats (District 6) are 11-1 overall on the season. CM plays in the Heartland Athletic Conference – Division I. The ‘Cats are 7-1 in their league, their lone loss this year by a 2-1 score to Jersey Shore.
The Hempfield Spartans (District 7- WPIAL – AAAA Section 1; PIAA semi-finalist in 2015) sport an 11-2 overall record, 10-0 in their league, losing to Yough and Shaler.
The Mifflin County Huskies (District 6) play in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth which features primarily District 3 opponents. They are 8-3 overall, 6-3 in their league (losses to Cumberland Valley and to Chambersburg twice).
The Dubois Beavers (District 9) round out the field. Dubois plays in the Central Penn League. Their overall record is 5-3, losing to Philipsburg-Osceola, Williamsport, and Altoona.
Central Mountain coach Dave Peters said he is looking forward to a great Saturday of softball, “Each year someone leaves this powerful tournament 2-0, two teams will end up 1-1, and someone walks away 0-2 on the day.” He said the tournament has typically provided some surprises, and features multiple all-state players.”
