LHU Closes Regular Season with Sweep of Goldey-Beacom
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University softball team (33-15) closed the 2016 regular season today with a non-conference sweep of visiting Goldey-Beacom College (9-39)
Lock Haven took game one 8-0 in six innings and the Bald Eagles rallied with two runs in the bottom of seventh to take game two, 2-1, in walk-off fashion.
With today’s sweep, LHU runs its season record to 33-15. It marks the first time Lock Haven has hit the 30-win mark since winning 30 games in 2012 and the 33 wins are the most since the Bald Eagles won 36 during the 2009 regular season. LHU went on to win 51 games and the 2009 National Championship.
The Bald Eagles scored eight runs on nine hits in game one and got home runs from Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) and Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone).
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) drove in two runs. Mouillesseaux finished 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored and four RBIs.
Slattery scattered a pair of GBC hits over six innings. She struck out five and didn’t allow a walk.
In game two, the Bald Eagle drew up a little seventh-inning magic, rallying for the 2-1 victory.
Trailing 1-0, Jodi Weaknecht (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) tripled and drove in the tying run.
With the winning run at third, Becca Caputo’s (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) infield-single brought it home and gave Lock Haven the walk-off win.
Mouillesseaux pitched well for LHU in game two and finished with four strikeouts. She gave up three hits and one walk.
Today marked LHU softball’s annual “Knock MS Out of the Park Day.”
LHU will return to action on Wednesday, April 27 at 3 p.m. on Day 1 of the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament. The Bald Eagles have clinched the No. 2 spot in the Central Division and will play the No. 2 seed out of the Eastern Division in their first game. Lock Haven’s opponent will be either Millersville or Kutztown as those two teams play today in the final PSAC East series of the regular season.
