Lady ‘Cats Prevail 10-5 over Hollidaysburg

cm-softballBALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The Lady Wildcats opened their 2016 softball season with a win 10-5 over District 6 rival, Holidaysburg.

Central Mountain jumped out to a 10-0 lead after two innings while only giving up one hit in the process.

In the third inning, The Lady Golden Tigers answered back plating three runs of their own.

Fortunately, the early lead was more than enough for the Lady Wildcats to prevail in the end with Josie Dershem and Caitlyn Brush sharing duty on the mound combining for two strikeouts and yielding only five hits to Hollidaysburg.

“Ten-nothing in the first two innings, we came and did exactly what we talked about before the game,” said CM head coach, Dave Peters, “Certainly there are areas we can improve, but overall we are certainly happy with scoring 10 runs in our first game.”

Overall the Lady ‘Cat defense played strong but did experience some problems with consistency in fielding and throwing that gave Hollidaysburg some unearned opportunities.

“I think we may have had some jitters today, but I expect us to make those plays,” related Peters of the defensive miscues, “We have a high level of competition here and we have some things to work on and correct. Overall the defense play well and I have to give Hollidaysburg credit, they put some pressure on our defense today.”

Offensively for CM, Sarah Reeder pounded out a star-up triple and single while Madison Brown had a pair of base hits. Josie Dershem, Autumn Young, Kimmie Coder, Caitlyn Brush, Loren Marasco and Averie Pringle all contributed base hits in the game.

It’s a busy week for Central Mountain softball as the Lady Wildcats host Selinsgrove on Thursday, March 31 then travel to Williamsport on Friday, April 1.
