LHU Softball Splits PSAC Central Opener at IUP
INDIANA – The Lock Haven University softball team (18-8, 1-1 PSAC Central) and IUP (11-7, 1-1 PSAC Central) renewed their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central rivalry today with a split.
It marked the PSAC Central opener for both teams and Lock Haven rallied to win game one, 8-6, before host-IUP took game two, 2-1.
In game one, Lock Haven trailed IUP 6-5 heading into the seventh inning, but the Bald Eagles responded in a big way.
Reining PSAC Central Player of the Week Paige Stuppy’s (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) RBI-single tied the game at 6-6 and Jessica Strouse (Beech Creek, Pa./Central Mountain) drove in a pair of runs give LHU the 8-6 lead. The three-run top half of the seventh was the difference and led Lock Haven to the comeback win.
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was 2 for 4 with a three-run home run in the third.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) went 2 for 3 with a run scored, and a RBI.
Mouillesseaux was credited with the win after throwing the final three innings. Mouillesseaux and Slattery combined for four strikeouts.
IUP won game two, 2-1, thanks to Megan Gould’s walkoff RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh.
Holweger was 2 for 3 at the plate in game two.
LHU will host Mansfield on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
