Lady Bald Eagles Topple Davis & Elkins 65-60
SHIPPENSBURG – The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (1-0) began the 2015-2016 season with a Friday comeback win over Davis & Elkins (0-1), 65-60.
Davis & Elkins jumped out to a big 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the LHU offense came alive and went on a 21-8 run to end the first half, tying the game at 37-all.
J.J. Hilliard (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the Bald Eagles in scoring with 17 points and five assists. In a tied game with a little over two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Hilliard made three big free throws to give the Bald Eagles a 62-59 lead.
Rachael McDaniel (Plainfield, N.J./California (Pa.) Univ.) had a big game with 16 points and five rebounds. McDaniel hit a three-pointer with seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to clinch the game and give The Haven the victory.
Mackenzie Livingston (Blairsville, Pa./IUP) had 14 points and two steals coming off the bench. Livingston had 10 points during the Bald Eagles’ late second-quarter run to tie the game at halftime.
Lock Haven is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Saint Michaels in the Wolf’s Bus line Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.
