‘Dawgs Rout ‘Cats 50-13
JERSEY SHORE – For Jersey Shore it was a playoff tune-up; for Central Mountain it was the end of another long season.
The Bulldogs and the Wildcats renewed their longstanding rivalry at the Thompson Street Stadium Friday night. While Central Mountain stayed with the favored ‘Shore team through one period, superior firepower proved the difference as the Bulldogs rode the legs of Levi Lorson and the arm of Travis Bradley to a 50-13 triumph.
The win allowed Jersey Shore to finish the regular season at 8-2 and the loss put Central Mountain’s final log at 2-8, saddled with a 7-game end of the season losing streak.
Lorson was unrelenting all night, piercing the Wildcat defense for 218 yards and four touchdowns. The Bulldog senior was complemented by senior quarterback Travis Bradley who completed his first seven passes and finished the night with 220 yards passing, part of an overall 536 yards of Jersey Shore offense.
Central Mountain actually had a first quarter lead at 7-6. After Lorson capped off the first JS possession with a 9-yard touchdown run, the Wildcats responded on a 69-yard pass play from quarterback Justin Neff to receiver Tyler Zablocki. Austyn Carson added the extra point for Central Mountain’s only lead of the night.
‘Shore blew the game open in period two, Lorson with three touchdown runs and Bradley with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Cole Eisworth. Those scores were sandwiched around a Neff 66-yard touchdown run, what would prove to be the final score of the night for the Wildcats.
Neff led the Wildcat offense with 111 yards rushing on 13 carries, Hunter Weaver next with 35 yards on 13 rushes. Neff passed for 120 yards, Zablocki the leading receiver on six catches for 112 yards.
Jersey Shore now preps for the District 4 AAA playoffs, likely to begin next weekend with a semi-final matchup with Shikellamy; the Braves defeated Milton 28-13. The Bulldogs with their 8-2 record should be a two-seed. Top spot will be Selinsgrove, now 9-1 after a 21-14 loss to undefeated (10-0) Southern Columbia.
Other scores: Montoursville 38, Loyalsock 14; State College 52, Mifflin County 7; Bucktail 49, Carson Long 8; and Bellefonte 43, Bald Eagle Area 7.
