MILL HALL – Soup lovers and the Lock Haven Salvation Army were the winners as the local charitable organization held its third annual Soup Off on Wednesday at Haywood’s on the Green.

Some 250 soup lovers enjoyed their soup as five area restaurants participated in the fundraising event. They included the Cottage Restaurant supplying broccoli cheddar soup; the Dutch Haven Restaurant with stuffed pepper soup; Restless Oaks with chicken and wild rice soup; Stella A’s providing chicken corn chowder and Haywoods with cream of otato soup.

The fundraiser began several weeks ago with each participating restaurant selecting their signature soup. Patrons at the restaurants were then asked to try the soups and then vote – putting a donation of any amount into the red Salvation Army kettle located in each of the participating restaurants. At yesterday’s three luncheon seatings those attending were able to sample all five soups and then vote for their favorite soup/restaurant.

When the voting was completed Stella A’s chicken corn chowder took home the Salvation Army’s “Golden Ladle Award” while Restless Oaks was recognized with the “Super Sales Award” for the most money raised. Proceeds from the event assist the Salvation Army in its program to feed the hungry of Clinton County.
