Gabe Janerella Receives Eagle Scout Award
RENOVO – Gabe Janerella of Renovo Boy Scout Troop 137 earned his Eagle Scout badge recently and was honored at an Eagle Scout banquet at the Renovo Fire Hall on October 3, 2015. Gabe is the 59th Eagle Scout in Troop 137 since its inception in May, 1964.
The Troop is sponsored by Zion’s Lutheran Church, Renovo, PA.
Gabe started in the scouting program as a Cub Scout earning the Bobcat, Wolf and Bear Badges. He then moved into Webelos where he received the Webelos Badge and the highest award in the Cub Scout program, the Arrow of Light. He was a Cub Scout for four years.
Gabe who is fourteen years old became a Boy Scout on January, 2011 and earned Life Scout on June 24, 2014. He has earned twenty-one (21) Merit Badges, and has held several positions in the Troop. While earning Life Scout he held the Senior Patrol Leader while earning his Eagle Scout. He has been involved for four years in the Boy Scout program.
Gabe is a freshman at Bucktail Area High School. He is active in Environmental, Club (1 year), Drama Club, Honor Class, Choir (1 year), and Jr. High Basketball. Gabe, is also active in the community: Bucktail Medical Center Relay For Life, ATV Cruise, for the Cure, and Alter Server (6 years).
His Eagle Scout project involved the Donut Hole Trail at Hyner Run State Park.
Gabe contacted Ted Ligenza, Trails Coordinator for DCNR Forestry, for discussion and approval of the project. Gabe completed 27 hours of preparation and work time. Other fellow scouts, friends and family completed 153 hours.
Special guests attending the ceremony were Father Charles Ugo, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Martha Sykes, Lay Speaker Renovo Presbyterian Church, James Tolomay, Presenter of Gabe’s award, and wife, Diane Tolomay, Lt. Col. Donald Miller, Bucktail Detachment Marine Corps, and his wife, Eloise, and David Watt, Representative for Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The following people took part in the program: Dave Flack, Committee Chairman; Scoutmaster Donald Long; Assistant Scoutmaster John Connolly; Mason Johnson, Junior ASM; Jonathan Probst, Junior ASM; Robert Calhoun, Eagle Scout; Troy Prebble, Richard Probst, and Vincent DiMattia.
A delicious Roast Beef dinner was enjoyed by all. Approximately 80 attended. If anyone would like to join the Boy Scout program (age 11), they meet on Tuesdays at the Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
